Travie McCoy captures scenes in Khayelitsha, Cape Town
Foundation Ambassadors
Our Ambassadors
At the Staying Alive Foundation we are proud to have four globally recognised Ambassadors to support our cause. Travie McCoy, Kelly Rowland, Keri Hilson and Jamal Edwards have been continually involved to help raise awareness and prevention of HIV/AIDS with SAF.
Kelly Rowland
The Staying Alive Foundation’s first Ambassador, Kelly Rowland has dedicated her global voice in an effort to help us encourage, energise and empower young people to help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in their local communities. Since 2008, Kelly hands-on approach has seen her travel to different corners of the globe in an effort to help raise awareness. She has visited Foundation-funded projects in Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and the United States.
Kelly diarised her hands-on experience in these communities with powerful stories, and with her strong commitment to HIV prevention and education, she has worked with the Staying Alive Foundation to continue our legacy.
Kelly continues to support our work, most recently performing at a fundraising event at the Westbury Hotel in London in January 2011.
Travie McCoy
Continuing the legacy of Kelly Rowland’s dedicated efforts, Travie McCoy of alternative hip hop collective Gym Class Heroes joined Staying Alive in 2009 as a Staying Alive Foundation Ambassador. As part of his role, Travie has been using his inimitable style to help raise the profile of the Foundation.
Travie began his work for Staying Alive on the red carpet at the 2008 Europe Music Awards in Liverpool, chatting to stars about their attitudes towards sex, relationships and condoms. Since then, Travie has travelled the world filming for MTV Staying Alive Special ‘Travie McCoy’s Unbeaten Track.’ Travie met with Foundation grantees in South Africa, the Philippines and India, faced with the challenge of writing a track to document his experience.
Following on from that, Travie hit the studio to record his exclusive Staying Alive track which was released in November 2009, with all proceeds going directly to the Staying Alive Foundation.
Keri Hilson
Singing superstar Keri Hilson joined the Staying Alive Ambassador family in June 2011.
You may be most familiar with Keri from her smash hits 'Knock You Down' and 'The Way I Are'. Collaborating with the likes of Timbaland, Kanye West, and Ne-Yo, Keri is taking the charts by storm.
As Ambassador she will do a number of things, ranging from visting some of the fantastic HIV prevention projects we support, to tweeting our news and updates. She is currently supporting the Fashion Against AIDS campaign at H&M - the proceeds of which benefits the Foundation.
Jamal Edwards
The Staying Alive Foundation is proud to announce its latest Ambassador, London born Jamal Edwards – a pioneer of the online youth broadcaster, SBTV.
This 21 year old entrepreneur has turned his hobby of filming live acts around London into a full-time job and ultimately a media empire.
At the age of 16 Jamal spent most of his spare time in the grime music scene, filming and broadcasting acts. Four years on, and Jamal has rubbed shoulders with the most globally recognised artists including the likes of P Diddy, Dizzee Rascal, Tinie Tempah and Jesse J with his interviews and music videos.
As a young entrepreneur, Jamal encourages young people who are passionate about their ideas to use their own drive and ambition to fight the spread of HIV and alleviate the stigma through their own businesses and organisations.
Jamal was announced as a SAF ambassador in October 2011, and has used his status to help raise awareness and prevention of HIV amongst young people. He currently visited a SAF grantee based in London and said he comes from the same background and can relate to many of the young people.

Hi,my name is Alex from Nairobi,Kenya,I just wanna bless you guys for the superb work you are doing. Its really encouraging to see such a huge entertainment franchise such as MTV helping out people without caring their race and tribe and to think of the life of people who are suffering from the HIV/AIDS stigma in the 21st century, I really thank you guys for that. When are you guys coming to Kenya? because there is still some work to be done in terms of educating the youth on issues about sex education and the importance of safe sex to avoid unwanted pregnancies, spreading of venereal diseases such as herpes and other life circumstances such as suicides.Thank you guys.
