Grantees Present at International Conference
We caught up with one of our grantee organisations, Youth RISE, at a global conference on harm reduction. They told us more about what they do and why they attended the event.
What is harm reduction?
Harm reduction is a term that defines policies, programmes, services and actions that work to reduce the harms of drugs on drug users.
How does it relate to HIV/AIDS?
Sharing needles among injecting drug users can increase the risk of contracting HIV. A common harm reduction strategy is to provide injecting drug users with clean needles.
Another increased risk of HIV alongside drug use can be lack of concern about safe sex when feeling the effects of drugs.
What is the IHRA?
The IHRA is the leading organisation in promoting evidence-based harm reduction policies and practices on a global basis.
Its annual conference is a platform for advocacy, debate, and discussion for all those working within the field of harm reduction. You can find out more here
