How We Work Together

by Editor

We've worked with a wide range of corporations and non-profits...

How we work together

The Staying Alive is 100% donor funded and works with a variety of different partners from both public and private sectors.  We work with our partners to develop innovative cause-related marketing campaigns around HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.  This year, we worked with our Ambassador Travis McCoy to write a charity single, we worked with the Body Shop to create a co-branded lip butter, and we collaborated with artist Shepard Fairey to create an exclusive Staying Alive t-shirt. All of these different products and campaigns helped to raise money for Staying Alive and we continue to look for new and compelling ways to do so.

What makes us different?

We are FIRST FUNDERS. Our grant giving strategy is unique; we fund young people with little or no previous funding. As well as providing small cash grants, we also provide them with local mentors and training to help them get their projects off the ground and develop them as they go forward.

We only fund projects run by YOUNG PEOPLE. We’re not ageist! But we recognise the importance of peer to peer education when it comes to changing the dynamics of this epidemic. We want young people to go in to their communities and educate their peers using language and methods that resonate with their peers.

We believe in the power of ONE. The Staying Alive Foundation recognises that one person really can make a difference in his/her wider community. We know that the power of the individual can mobilise others in to taking action.

So: funding the un-funded, funding young leaders, and understanding the power of every one of our grantees. With this strategy, we have now awarded 193 grants to 126 different individuals and organizations in 50 countries. We've raised and given out more than $1.7 million, and we aim to do much more.

The Global Champions Project

In November, we launched a Global Champions Project; a new initiative that fundraises for individual Staying Alive Foundation projects. All of our grantees have exceptional stories – it’s what drives the Foundation to continue finding and funding these extraordinary young people. With the Global Champions Initiative, we hope to enable people to support a specific project that has struck a chord with them.

As a champion, you directly help a particular project for a donation of $20K  This initiative is much more than just providing financial support to a specific project; it will create a unique relationship with one of the many heroes that we support as you will be informed of the grantees development as they progress through the Staying Alive grant giving and training process.
