LeND
In Nigeria, 2.6 million people are living with HIV, the second highest number in the world after South Africa.
LeND has taken a unique approach to HIV education. It targets young people who are often left out of sexual health education - those with hearing impairment. Inspired by her cousin's struggle with the disability, Eunice, alongside her LeND colleagues, are making sure this group of people is no longer left behind.
LeND's amazing leaders show our film crew what they're all about
Hearing-impaired people in many countries are often ostracised. Unfortunately, in societies affected by sexual abuse and rape, these people are the most at risk. To make matters worse, deaf people are given very little access to sex education.
LeND was formed in reaction to this problem, in Lagos, Nigeria. Our film crew went to meet LeND’s founders, Eunice and Desmond, to find out more about what they do:
With the commitment of Eunice and Desmond, and through funding from The Staying Alive Foundation since 2007, LeND is well on track to reaching 15,000 youth with HIV/AIDS information, distributing 60,000 condoms, and training 300 young peer educators.
